Why The Charismatic Charlie Wade is a Massive Waste of Time

If you love reading fiction, chances are, you heard the book “The Charismatic Charlie Wade” (also called “The Amazing Son In Law). If you plan on reading this book, read this article first and you’ll thank me later.

I discovered this book promoted on Facebook. Since I didn’t want to pay, I searched the Internet and found it on Wattpad for free. There are two uploads on Wattpad – one has more than 5,000 chapters (I don’t know if this is complete), and the other one is ongoing. I read the book until chapter 2,300 and I stopped reading not because I don’t like the story, but because of myriad of reasons that I’m going to explain below.

The story is good but how horrible the book is made will shock you.

Here are some of the reasons why you should not waste your time reading The Charismatic Charlie Wade.

1. The Book is Unnecessarily Long

What makes the book so long is the overwhelming narration. I tried reading for straight 12 hours non-stop and I’m getting nowhere. Many times the author describes the same scene in different chapters. For example, the author said several times in different chapters that Charlie Wade saved “Don Albert” by giving him the rejuvenating pill. What makes this frustrating is that the author describes the event in almost half a chapter.

The lengthy narration is just out of this world and not necessary. For example, at the beginning of the chapter, Charlie is about to kick someone, this is followed by a very long narration and then at the end of the chapter, he finally kicks someone. The whole chapter contains only one action with unnecessarily long narration.

2. Charlie Wade has No Weakness

Is there any thrill when the main character is invincible and has no weakness? Charlie Wade is more powerful than God. Heck, even Superman can be defeated using a kryptonite. All Marvel Superheroes have weaknesses but this Charlie Wade has none. Why would someone read a book when it is already known that no one can defeat the main character? There is no suspense in this story. The only reason why people continue reading is because they want to know how Charlie defeats the Banks and the Wade family.

3. A Very Frustrating Turn of Event

Before Chapter 1,500, there were already signs of irregularities. I am talking about the names of characters being changed back to Chinese. At first, I let this pass after reading the next chapter that the names are in English again. However, after chapter 2,000, the names have changed and I cannot bear to continue reading. Liam became Liang, Matilda became Mequeing, Mengshi, Mengshui, and Mengui (I don’t know if there’s more in the succeeding chapters. The Banks family became the Sun family, etc. I understand that this book is written in Chinese but how could someone mess with the names of the Characters?  If you can bear this then it’s up to you. You would ask yourself after reading for days “Who are these people?”

The story is good, but I wouldn’t waste my time reading such rubbish.
