Stories from a mobile App called WebNovel are promoted everywhere on Facebook, and popular novels featuring Charlie Wade, Caspian Lynch, and other “good-for-nothing son-in-laws” are captivating the interests of unsuspecting readers.
WebNovel is a paid app. This means that when you read any story inside the app, you cannot continue reading until you buy points.
The problem with Chinese web novels is that they don’t make any sense and are created to lure readers to nowhere while paying hundreds of dollars for just one book that never ends.
Here are the reasons why Chinese web novels suck. They are called “web novels” because these books were initially written for Chinese online platforms and not necessarily written for printed books.
1. Extremely and Unnecessarily Long
A regular novel has around 1,000 to 5,000 words per chapter, and a regular fiction book has around 90,000 to 150,000 words, depending on the genre. However, web novels have more than 500 chapters and lead nowhere. One of the most popular web novels is “The Amazing Son in Law,” which is now at chapter 4,525. The novel features Charlie Wade. If you pay to read up to these chapters, you have probably already paid more than $1,000 and wasted more than three months of your time.
2. Rinse and Repeat Stories
Another story is titled “The Almighty Lord Caspian,” featuring Caspian Lynch. This story is a perfect copy of Charlie Wade’s report. They’re both good-for-nothing sons-in-law, have mysterious and secret backgrounds, are extremely powerful, and have billionaire wives. I’m not browning the whole app, so I’m sure there are also dozens of similar stories.
3. Slow Paced
In Chapter One, Nadia is preparing to join the martial arts competition. In Chapter 10, Nadia is still doing the same. Imagine how much time you have wasted reading the narrations between these chapters without going anywhere.
There is this story called “Bride Behind the Mask“. It’s already in Chapter 590, and the story only worsens. Marguerite, the lead character female, was forced to have sex to a stranger and wore a mask. By Chapter 590, her ordeal only getting worse. The melodrama in this story is hard to imagine, and only stupid people would continue reading. It’s like a torture without ending.
4. Terrible Translations
The Amazing Son-In-Law was offered on Amazon and, as expected, was panned by readers. Not only that, but the book never ends, but using pronouns like he, she, and we, and they were improper, giving you a headache on who is talking to whom. Another thing is that, near the middle of the story, the English names suddenly changed to Chinese names. For example, Matilda turned to Mequing. What a garbage. Imagine reading a book, and all the characters have changed in the middle of the story.
5. Just a Total Scam
Chinese web novels are a total scam. They never end, and they will continuously ask for money, so you continue reading. Not only that, web novels never end, but the authors keep bringing up the things that had happened before, adding more words and content.
In The Amazing Son-In-Law, the author introduces Don Gilbert dozens of times.
Avoid these garbage stories if you don’t want to waste your time and money. After reading for months, you will only feel disappointed and realize that the author is just playing to make money.
Oh, wait! Even if you’re reading a pirated version on dramanovels.com, you’re still wasting your precious time.
